This picture was taken in March 1962 and shows Joseph Bennett (top) and John Mercer (Jackie) sawing timber with a pit saw for a boat that Joe was building. This same type of system was used by James Elliott in the late 1800's and well into the 1900's to saw timber and plank for his schooners, and also to saw pine logs for their home building. The home of Joseph Bennett is in the background - Sidney (Ted) Mercer.
