Whether By Sea...
Marine Atlantic provides year round service to the island portion of Newfoundland & Labrador, operating a fleet of state of the art ferries on a daily basis between North Sydney, NS and Port aux Basques, NL. During the summer months, service is also provided between North Sydney, NS and Argentia, NL. If your travel plans include getting here by car, then you will certainly enjoy the experience that a short 6 - 7 hour sea voyage brings.
Or By Air...
Perhaps you want to spend less time getting here and more time visiting and touring around the local area. If you would prefer to fly, the nearest airport is operated by the Gander International Airport Authority, which is designed to serve all of your travel needs. Other airports you can fly into include St. John's International Airpot, Stephenville International Airport and Deer Lake Regional Airport.
It All Ends By Road
Westbound
No matter if you're arriving by Marine Atlantic ferries, or one of several airports on the island, you will have to make the final leg of your journey by automobile. If approaching Gander from the east on the Trans Canada Highway, turn right at Gander and take Route 330 for approximately 40 km until you reach the Gander Bay causeway, whereupon you turn left onto Route 331 for another 21 km. Once you reach Route 335, turn right one last time and continue on for approximately 17 km until you come to the end of the road, which will put you squarely in Port Albert.
Eastbound
If you're driving in from Port aux Basques, Stephenville or Deer Lake, turn left at Notre Dame Junction onto Route 340 until you enter Lewisporte town limits, a drive of approximately 11 km. Shortly after entering the Town of Lewisporte, follow Route 340 as it makes a right turn and becomes the Road To The Isles. Continue along this scenic drive for approximately 42 km, whereupon you will make a right turn onto Route 331. A short 4 km along this route will bring you to Route 335, where you will turn left and continue on until you reach Port Albert.
