Changing The Name - A Royal Proclamation

 

It was in the early part of the 20th Century that a petition was brought before the Government of the day to change the name from Litte Beaver Cove to Port Albert. As can be seen by the attached documentation, a series of correspondences and Gazettes were issued, until the name was officially changed on 21 March 1916.



Letter written by the Deputy Colonial Secretary

After receiving a letter from Mr. Herbert Elliott, the Deputy Colonial Secretary fired off this letter to the Colonial Secretary, indicating that a mistake had been made with regards to the electoral district, and requested that steps be taken to correct the error.
