Elliott Family Reunion Official Invitation
Dear Elliott Family Member:
Hello and welcome to the beginning of what promises to be an exciting and memorable year for us all who share a common connection with the clan of Thomas Elliott of Port Albert, Newfoundland. It was in the second half of the nineteenth century that Thomas sailed into the deep water of what would become Port Albert to start a new life, and now as the twenty-first century is still new it is time for his descendants to return.
In the past month of November, the first meeting of the "Elliott Family Reunion Welcoming Committee" took place - comprised of Marie Elliott, Joy Elliott, Doris Mercer, Marjorie Hoffe, Shirley Pelley and Margaret Mercer - and the wheels began rolling with a general reunion plan and tentative schedule of events for a weekend of family fun next August.
The weekend of August 8th, 9th and 10th 2008, has been decided and the dates booked at the community hall in Port Albert, which will serve wonderfully as the centre of events for our gathering. It is important to note that for a community the size of Port Albert this will be a HUGE event, possibly doubling the population! It is then important to remember how much work it will be for everyone involved and how appreciated any help will be, please feel free to contact us if you want to participate in any way. We are also glad for the assistance of the United Church Women's group in the catering of our large Saturday evening dinner as well as in the preparation of the countless snacks we will surely require.
The committee has decided that a $20.00 registration fee per adult, children 10 and under attend free, will sufficiently cover these expenses of hall rental and food as well as entertainment costs, we'll have to have a band of course, we'll need something to dance to!
We are currently compiling all the necessary information concerning accommodations in the area, such as bed and breakfasts, hotels and campgrounds as well as other amenities like shopping and gas stations and will be providing this to you as soon as possible. Accommodations of course are our primary concern and making sure that everyone will have a warm bed our number one priority.
As you can see there is a lot of work to be done in planning this celebration but like any party it starts with a guest list. So if you could, complete the registration form that's been included and return to Ted and Margaret Mercer as soon as possible. The sooner we have a good handle on who will be coming the better we can be prepared and the bigger the success will be.
Looking Forward To August,
The Elliott Family Reunion Welcoming Committee
P.S. We are also looking for old family photos or memorabilia. If you have anything or know of anything relevant, let us know and bring them along to share with all. Also remember to spread the word about this reunion. If we've missed someone, please let us know. Thanks!
